nice size chair mat, but.., December 30, 2011 By "the Dish" (CT) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Universal 56808 46 by 60-Inch Cleated Chair Mat for Low and Medium Pile Carpet, Clear (Kitchen) Finally found the perfect size chair mat for my new home office without purchasing two regular size one's.
However, I thought all chair mats were created equal in terms of thickness, but I was mistaken with this one because how thin this chair mat is.
I mean it works like all others do, but I wish it was a little thicker.

Equivalent to Staples, Office Depot, October 30, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Universal 56807 45 by 53-Inch Cleated Chair Mat for Low and Medium Pile Carpet, Clear (Kitchen) This same item can be found at our local Staples and Office Depot for $65-$70. I was concerned that this chair mat might not be the same quality that we saw in-store, but it appears to be the exact same item. We have medium pile carpet, and it stays in place without a problem. The back of the mat is not spiked, like a previous mat we had; it's more like little nubs. Would probably work very well on Berber carpet. I'm very pleased to have paid about $46 a piece for two mats, including shipping from The Nerds

Look elsewhere for an inexpensive chair mat, March 16, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Universal 56807 45 by 53-Inch Cleated Chair Mat for Low and Medium Pile Carpet, Clear (Kitchen) I bought this mat when my ten year old big box store chair mat became brittle and cracked. I was swayed by the low price and the positive reviews. My advice: don't make the same mistake I did!
Pros:
- Inexpensive.
Cons:
- The traction pins have been replaced by little strips that are about 1/4" long. I initially had high hopes for this style, but I was quickly disappointed. They have virtually no traction to hold the mat in place. The carpet in my office is a fairly low pile. For comparison's sake, I tried the mat on a medium pile carpet surface as well as on bare floor.
- The material the mat is made from is not very sturdy. Granted, a mat needs some give so the user isn't doing the slip-'n-slide, but the wheels of my chair really sink into this one.
I'm tired of having to move this mat back into place on a daily basis. I'll take this as a $50 learning experience and buy a mat with some real teeth.
