1.0 out of 5 stars Quality and Customer Service Nightmare, July 22, 2009

In April of 2009 we purchased several Architect Series stainless steel KitchenAid appliances from a local authorized dealer including a diswasher, microwave, stove, warming drawer and a 36" cooktop and downdraft unit (~$10,000 of product). When the cooktop unit arrived it was installed by the local dealer's service technicians. During the installation we discovered that a number of pieces were missing from the cooktop including burner tops that prevented us from using the cooktop. After 3 to 4 phone calls to Whirlpool and about 2 weeks later we finally received the parts and discovered that Whirlpool (owner of KitchenAid brand) had sent the wrong parts. After several more phone calls we were finally sent what we thought were the remaining correct parts. After the technician arrived to install them he found that we were missing more burner parts from the high capacity burner and that using the burner without these parts had scorched the cooktop slightly. At the same time we... Read more

Well, after seeing the other terrible reviews of this product, without apparent consideration for how it actually FUNCTIONS, I wanted to add my experience. Our fan was installed 1 year ago with a gas cooktop, and we have been very happy with the function of the fan so far. If you measure before you purchase, there shouldn't be any problems with the top striking cabinets, blowing fuses, etc. We did have to make some adjustments under the cooktop as the fan was quite a bit bigger than the original, but it wasn't difficult. The fan is powerful, and rises high enough to be effective in ventilating all 5 of the burners. The elevator works well enough, though we usually leave it in the up position, as my wife is always making stinky things that require serious ventilation! The only problem we've encountered is that the filter surfaces (they're both removable and dishwasher-safe) are fairly easily scratched. The scratches are superficial, and I haven't tried buffing them out, but they... Read more

We previously had a Dacor smooth cooktop and downdraft. These were great products but wore out after 13 years.
Decided to replace all our appliances with KitchenAid brand. Not until the installer raised the vent and it hit a decorative plate on the wall and blew a fuse, did he realize it was much taller than the old Dacor. A repair person was dispatched and tried to say there was no fuse in this unit. Finally, he called the manufacturer who stated there was. However, the fuse then had to be ordered and took another week to arrive. I understand repair people cannot stock every single part on their trucks but the repair company was advised by the installer it was a blown fuse.

(Not to digress, but I find this happens all the time now. Something is broken. Repair person is dispatched. A part is ordered and a second trip is necessary. Has anyone else noticed this is S.O.P. these days? So much time and gasoline are wasted as a result.)

When the fuse... Read more
